Yellowstone National Park extends north of Wyoming into Montana where stunning terrain emerges into the Blue Sky State. The expanse of Montana's Yellowstone Country is fed by three awesome rivers that form the headwaters of the Missouri River: the Gallatin, Madison and Jefferson, where Lewis and Clark spent so much of their time searching for a direct passage to America's Pacific coast. Bozeman is a university town which may be one of the most exciting mountain towns in the northwest. Surrounded by natural beauty, their outdoor activities include a host of Montana University's programs, Shakespeare productions, Big Sky and Bridger Bowl ski resorts, scenic hiking, biking with Ranches virtually right out their back doorstep. Artists and entrepreneurs alike are drawn here by its exceptional scenery, world-class outdoor recreation, and genuine slice of history.
There are three scenic routes leading south into Yellowstone National Park: The Gallatin Gateway, follows the Gallaton River through the region, entering through West Yellowstone; Hwy 89 passes through a blue ribbon trout fishery along the Yellowstone River into Livingston, an art mecca where over 200 artists and writers live and galleries thrive; The Beartooth Scenic Highway weaves through dramatic switchbacks overlooking snowcapped mountains, glaciers and alpine lakes. Beartooth Pass has been described as one of the most scenic drives in America.
