This region is home to the eclectic college town of Bozeman, the arts mecca of Livingston, geothermal hot springs, and is gateway to Yellowstone National Park through the splendid Beartooth Pass described as one of the most scenic drives in North America.

Russell Country inspired its namesake, turn-of-the-century cowboy artist Charlie Russell, to document both the drama and the innocence of the American West, using much of the rich landscaped of the region as backdrop for his creations. In addition to museums of the artists’ works, visitors to this region can find ghost towns, diverse wildlife, unique geological terrain and one of the foremost dinosaur fossil observation preserves in the world. Great Falls is this region’s major city and serves as headquarters for Lewis and Clark National Forest.
Vast emptiness, abundant wildlife, and other worldly landscapes of the badlands found in Makoshika National Park and a wealth of prehistoric fossils await visitors to this region. The state’s largest city, Billings, nicknamed The Magic City, offers attractions from rodeos to theater to art shows to heritage museums: A taste of culture among ancient to not too distant history.
