The Interior of Alaska encompasses a region of spectular sites that include the renown Mt. McKinley, North America's tallest peak and the pristine landscape of Denali National Park. The park sits in the shadow of Mt. McKinley and can be accessed by traveling from Anchorage to Fairbanks. Vast expanses of tundra, forests filled with wildlife and lakes and streams teaming with birds.
Fairbanks epitomizes Alaska's history and offers visitors numerous cultural museums and in particular, University of Alaska Museum Of the North should not be missed. Youy can also tour a working gold mine and visit Pioneer Park for a turn-of-the-century (1900's) Alaskan experience.
Fairbanks is the gateway to the far-north. Fly-in excursions to Fort Yukon on the Arctic Circle reflects life on the Yukon River in Alaska's largest Athabascan village. Fort Yukon is one of the oldest Alaska settlements and lies just north of the Artic Circle and beneath the aurora boralis offering some of the best views of the Northern Lights. |
