Carved and shaped by powerful natural forces, Depoe Bay is the site of the world’s smallest navigable harbor. Waves run beneath lava beds creating spouting geysers up to 60 feet into the air. This charming fishing village is brimming with colorful stores, gift shops and galleries featuring maritime collectibles, fine art, apparel and the tastiest candies. Depoe Bay is fortunate to have a resident pod of grey whales which makes its home here 10 months out of the year. The Depoe Bay Whale Center is Oregon’s newest State Park and the home of the highly acclaimed “Whale Watching Spoken Here” program. Newport has been a popular destination for visitors since the 1800’s. Located on Yaquina Bay the best part of town is the Nye Beach Historic District. Lined with boutique shops, a performing and visual arts center and access to a beautiful and unspoiled beach. Newport offers two aquariums including the 29-acre world-class Oregon Coast Aquarium.
Yachats, pronounced YAH-hots, is derived from the Chinook Indian word, Yahuts, meaning dark water at foot of mountain. Nestled between a rugged coastline and lush forest this small but eccentric town exudes an romantic and peaceful spirit. Yachats is surrounded by three national parks and natural wonders including the world’s largest sea cave in the world.
