Welcome to Friday Harbor, Washington -- San Juan Island! The San Juan Islands are accessible only by air or by boat, and most popularly by Washington State Ferry from Anacortes; guests discover there are no delays for visitors willing to leave their cars behind. Friday Harbor, a quaint seaport, rises from the ferry landing and public marina where it is an easy stroll to the docks, parks, restaurants, shops, galleries and of the many b&b's, hotels, resorts, camping and hostel choices.
Additionally, visitors can readily take a cruise, pedal a bike, hop a flight, paddle a kayak, charter a boat, catch a bus or rent a car to see Orca's in their natural habitat and to wander about the island exploring the National and State parks. Where high-rises are forgotten and sunrises are unforgettable. Where there are more lighthouses than traffic lights. Relax and enjoy, but watch out for deer, bald eagles, seals, whales, and friendly folks.
On the north end of San Juan Island is another port of entry known as Roche Harbor Village. It is listed on the National Register of Historical Sites and is approximately ten miles from Friday Harbor. Roche Harbor has beautiful Victorian gardens, an airstrip, marina, lodging, grocery store, restaurants, sculpture park, shopping, water activities and local artists booths.
On the east side of San Juan Island is the town of Friday Harbor, also the San Juan County Seat. Friday Harbor, a historic seaport, rises from the ferry landing and public marina where it is an easy stroll to the town's docks, parks, restaurants, shops, galleries, lodging facilities and business district. The marina buzzes with activity through the summer months, seaplanes swoop in delivering tourists and ferry passengers arrive heading to the island’s state parks, charming inns and summer retreats.
