China Beach Retreat is a nest of delights, where your senses receive all that they can demand of nature. It is our attempt here, through words and pictures, to convey the experience awaiting you at China Beach Retreat and the Long Beach Peninsula. The ambiance of this charming Craftsman cottage in a cove between Cape Disappointment State Park and the Port of Ilwaco, WA have a truly spell-binding effect. The view of the tidelands brings with it an ever-changing array of driftwood. Floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows in the common room frame the on-going real-life drama of dozens of shorebirds careening their way through the tideflats. Watch the comings and goings of the local fishing fleet, through rain or shine, as they transport their harvest across the bar and mouth of the Columbia River near Astoria, Oregon.
This bed and breakfast retreat in Long Beach, Washington is elegantly and comfortably furnished in antiques. The decor is an eclectic enhancement of the beautiful views to be had from each of the three guestrooms.
It was in November of the year 1805 that Lewis and Clark closed in upon their ultimate goal. They traversed this property on the Long Beach Peninsula, now known as China Beach Retreat bed and breakfast. To memorialize the words of William Clark, "Ocian in view! O! the joy." China Beach awaits. This Long Beach, Washington vista is yours for the asking.

China Beach Retreat has three guest rooms. Each room offers an extraordinary vista of Baker's Bay and the mouth of the mighty Columbia River. The headlands of Cape Disappointment define the westward horizon. So much rich history amplifies itself so clearly here. In the front yard, a heron perches. A covey of widgeon sweep into view. A marsh hawk seems to dangle in the damp, salty air. The Oregon Coastal Range glitters for a hundred miles in winter sunrise. Deer frequently visit, asserting their right-of-way in this natural setting.
Coffee and tea service is available all day. A sumptuous gourmet breakfast is served daily at The Shelburne Inn, just five miles away, and is complimentary to guests of China Beach Retreat.
In the upstairs rooms, named Sacagawea (#18) and Lewis & Clark (#19), each bed has been raised on a wooden dais to afford a bird's-eye view of Baker's Bay. Witness that dramatic surge of waters that empties here at the edge of the western United States. Each of the bathrooms features an air-jet, hydrotherapy massage tub, and is decorated with hand-crafted tiles made by the renowned local artist, Renee O'Connor. Victorian stained glass windows have been added to cast a romantic light.
The downstairs suite is the perfect place to unwind. Asian accents add to the serenity of the view. A two-person, air-jet, hydrotherapy massage tub completes the job of removing the stresses of modern living. A marble relief panel of the Chinese Goddess Kuan Yin floating in the clouds oversees the effort.
