Inside Passage Adventure - 8 days/7 nights |
Safari Quest - 22 guests/9 crew - 112 feet |
 |
More than a protected area in the wilderness of Alaska, Glacier Bay is also recognized internationally as a Biosphere Reserve, established in 1986 under the United Nations Man and the Biosphere Program. In 1992 Glacier Bay became part of an international World Heritage Site, along with neighboring Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Now, we want to take you there.
With American Safari Cruises, youll discover 15,000 - foot mountains rising straight out of the ocean; come face-to-face with massive glaciers, their blue faces rising some 200 feet above the sea; and experience the thunderous roar of ice as it calves into the water. Youll weave into unsung bays and coves where grizzly bears raise their young, moose browse among the alders, and mountain goats scale the cliffs above |

|
Here are only a few of the highlights youll experience:
- On board Naturalist and Park Ranger to interpret the geology and ecology of the park.
- A chance to see puffins, murres and other rarely seen sea birds.
- Opportunities to see sea lions, seals, bears, mountain goats, moose and more.
- Two days of cruising, exploring by small boat, kayaking, and hiking.
- One night at anchor in a silent, pristine cove inside the park.
- Several up-close and unhurried glacier viewings.

Day 1 Sail from Juneau
Transfer to your yacht after an included city and glacier tour. Your crew greets you with champagne and smiles, and well cruise to a secluded wilderness anchorage this evening.
Days 2-3 Icy Strait and Elfin Cove
Well search for the telltale blow of the humpback whale as we cruise in Icy Strait today, and later, all the charm of Alaska will greet us as we pull into tiny Elfin Cove, a miniscule village tucked into Chichagof Island. Well step ashore to stretch our legs and meet the people who choose to live their lives far removed from modern-day conveniences. Imagine waiting for the mail plane to come in once a week here in Elfin Cove so that you may read the paper! This evening well anchor in a remote bay and drop the kayaks for a paddle before calling it a day.
Days 4-5 Glacier Bay National Park
One of Americas crown jewel national parks will be ours to explore and marvel at for the next two days. The park itself is 3.2 million acres (a little larger than the state of Connecticut), so there is plenty to see. Tidewater glaciers sweep like rivers of ice down massive mountain valleys, terminating before us in the waters of Glacier Bay. If conditions permit, well lower the inflatable and weave among the icebergs that have fallen from the face of the glaciers. Well enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings paddling our kayaks in the quiet of this majestic wilderness. And what will we find? Here in the bay there are puffins and sea lions, mountain goats and bears, moose, eagles, and scenery more spectacular than any place on earth. See Glacier Bay Map.
Days 6-7 Wilderness, Whales, and Hot Springs
Well cruise into the heart of Alaskas Inside Passage during the next four days. On any given morning, well awaken to find our crew ready to send us off in our kayaks, complete with hot coffee in a thermos (cream and sugar?). Well wander through misty coves where colorful sealife clings to the intertidal rocks, and the silence remains unbroken except for the clear call of a Pacific loon, or a marbled murrelet (well show you one!). Or maybe well knock on your stateroom door to inform you that a bear and her two cubs are ambling along the shoreline just beyond the bow. Well spend our days cruising the waters where humpback whales, Stellers sea lions, orcas and porpoise feed and frolic. Well slip into scenic bays, enjoy guided nature hikes and soak in natural hotsprings. Our anchorages will vary from remote coves to dramatic, waterfall-laced fjords where the cliffs rise over 2,500 feet straight up out of the water. It simply does not get better than this.
Day 8 Sitka
After breakfast we'll arrive in Sitka and you'll be transferred to the airport for connections home.
