towels, elegant toiletries; many have private balconies and deep soaking tubs.
At Hastings House, sipping your morning tea or coffee on your private porch becomes a daily ritual; whimsical details like putting out the cat take on a new meaning; a soak in the deep tub or watching the stars from your balcony make a perfect ending to the day.
ROOMS
These delightful bed-sitting rooms, all within the reconstructed Barn, feature a fireplace and ensuite bath. Each is unique, but all encompass a queen or king bed and sitting area in a single room, with country antiques and comfortable seating for two.
Woodland
A spacious ground level queen bed- sitting room opens to a grassy meadow, with a backdrop of sheep pastures and emerald forests. This light-filled room is warmed by an open fireplace, surrounded by wing back chairs and country antiques. A painting by a local artist graces the mantle.
Sealoft
This cozy upper level queen bed sitting room features high beamed ceilings, a pair of wing chairs in front of the fireplace, and a large skylit bath with both tub and shower. Large windows look out over the garden wishing well and toward the ocean.
SUITES
These four two-room suites, two in the Manor House and two in the reconstructed Barn, feature a fireplace and cozy seating, ensuite bath, and country antiques. Each is unique, but offers more space and privacy for its guests than our bed-sitting rooms.
Manor East
This two-room suite with half-timbered ceiling, on the upper level of the Manor House, features a spacious living room with flat stone fireplace and ocean view through leaded glass windows. The queen bedroom is furnished with antique oak and chintz. It was in this suite that Warren Hastings designed WWII landing craft, attracting the attention of a German spy.
Manor West
The large front bed-sitting room of this two bedroom, one bath suite features an ocean view through leaded glass windows, queen bed, and comfortable seating around the flat-stone fireplace. The second bedroom features twin beds with eiderdown comforters and antique mahogany, and a small dressing area.
Greenhouse
Wrap-around windows bring the garden into the sunken living room of this large two-room suite, complemented by a fireplace, wicker furniture, and overstuffed sleeper sofa. Hand painted florals enhance the bath, and the work of local artists grace the living room and bedroom.
Meadow
A garden-level two-room suite, newly remodeled in 2003, offers a queen bed-sitting room with fireplace and TV armoire, French doors opening to a verdant meadow perfect for watching eagles and other birds (we host over 250 varieties). A separate study with desk and daybed also accesses the large bath with walk-in shower and generous soaking tub. (wheelchair friendly)
PREMIER SUITES
Consisting of the two Farmhouse suites and Somerset in the Hillside group, the Premier Suites all offer stunning views of the harbour, large private porches, fireplace, generous bath, and over 700 sq.ft. living/sleeping space furnished with country antiques and overstuffed seating for four or more.
Farmhouse East and West
Two mirror-image two-story ocean front premier suites occupy the original Farmhouse on the estate. On the main floor of each is an ocean-view sitting room with open brick wood-burning fireplace and private porch, queen sleeper sofa, wet bar, and large bathroom with soaking tub for two. The upstairs bedroom features a king bed with comfortable sitting area overlooking the gracious front lawns, and a bathroom with walk-in shower looking out to the garden.
Somerset
This spacious premier suite in the cedar-clad Hillside group features a large air-conditioned living/dining room with fir and slate fireplace and a large deck overlooking the harbour and marina. A large bedroom, open to the living room through French doors, is furnished with an armoire and twin/king bed. Accessible from both entry and bedroom, the oversized bathroom boasts a soaking tub for two, heated slate floors, heated towel bar, a walk-in shower and double sinks. Somerset is often the choice for small receptions and meetings, or as an elegant hospitality suite.
In a class by itself, this idyllic two-room cottage was originally located on the site of the Manor House, where it served as the Hudson Bay trading post in the 1800’s. Moved to its present location in 1940, under a large pear tree next to the flower garden, the Post looks out to the sea through French doors. Country antiques and wicker add charm to the queen bedroom and living room. Due to its privacy, it is a favourite with romantics.
PREMEIR COTTAGE Churchill Cottage
Churchill Cottage sleeps up to five in three bedrooms (twin/king in the master, queen bedroom, and a single twin), is our only accommodation suitable for small children. Mature couples will also enjoy its spaciousness and privacy, and the weekly rate invites longer stays. Equipped with a full kitchen and small dining room, a single bathroom, TV/DVD, washer and dryer, free-standing fireplace in the living room, a large deck overlooking the hotel property and harbour, and private lawns, it is accessed by car or by footpath from reception. |

Salt Spring Island is the largest of the Southern Gulf Islands, which are located off the southeastern coast of Vancouver Island. Three ferry terminals provide connections to Victoria, Duncan (which is 64 kilometers or 40 miles north of Victoria) and the city of Vancouver.
Salt Spring Island is approximately 18 miles long and from 2 to 10 miles wide. There are almost 500 miles of road winding past lakes, across farmland and through wooded areas with frequent views of the ocean, other islands and the mainland mountains.
The Island has almost 12,000 residents. The largest settlement is Ganges, an unincorporated village with seaplane service to Victoria and Vancouver. In Ganges you will find three banks, a library, post office, fire hall, liquor store, grocery stores, bakeries, department stores, three gas stations, and a full range of professional and trade services, as well as many small shops and galleries.
A large number of artists, entertainers and crafts people have made their homes on the island. Consequently, Salt Spring’s many galleries, together with numerous craft fairs and concerts have given the island a national reputation as an artist’s colony.
