Deception Pass is a thrilling site for anyone crossing the bridge by car, on foot or on a boat. It is a popular spot for photographers looking to capture the rugged beauty of the Puget Sound, and for nature lovers. Its name spawned from Captain Joseph Whidbey's discovery in the spring of 1792 when he sailed through the whirl pooled narrow passage to prove that it was not really a small bay as charted by the Spaniards, but a deep and turbulent channel that connects the Strait of Juan de Fuca with the Saratoga Passage.
Today visitors have the opportunity to ride through the turbulent waters on Deception Pass Tours with Captain Brett, a U.S. Coast Guard certified captain. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth in the parking lot at the south end of the bridge, or call directly to (360) 914-0096. Their web site www.deceptionpasstours.com provides tour information as well, and additional history on the National Historical Landmark, Deception Pass Bridge. |
