Redoubt Bay Lodge offers the only accommodations within a 171,000 acre critical habitat area, and is the only 5-acre privately owned property in the region. This small, rustic lodge sits on a small knoll overlooking Big River Lakes, a chain of lakes that lead to the Big River and on to Cook Inlet, 50 minutes southwest of Anchorage. The flight via float plane offers spectacular scenic views of the Cook Inlet, the western edge of the Kenai Peninsula and bears who come to the water's edge to fish for salmon - as this area is host to the state's most abundant bear population.
Guests also enjoy sport fishing for salmon, kayaking around the lakes, hiking, and the inherent beauty of the Redoubt Bay Critical Habitat area. It is the ultimate Alaskan experience under comfort and back-country luxury. |

When you are a guest at either Winterlake Lodge or Redoubt Bay Lodge, you’ll experience Kirsten Dixon’s Alaska cuisine. Kirsten has been cooking in the backcountry of Alaska for more than twenty years. She is a passionate culinary student, educator, and an avid gardener.
Kirsten Dixon and her talented team of chefs take pride in the uniqueness of the Winterlake Lodge and Redoubt Bay Lodge kitchens. With an emphasis on local and fresh ingredients, Chef Dixon loves to use herbs from the wilds and from the garden. She assembles the best of the Pacific Northwest to offer her guests.
Highlights include Alaska wild salmon, wild berries, sourdough, fresh-baked breads and pastries, homemade jams and jellies, and specialty hand-crafted cheeses. The Within The Wild Adventure Company purchases organic food products whenever possible.

Tours Include:
A tour of the lake by canoe
A wine tasting on the front porch
A walk on the bog
Plaster-casting of animal tracks
The Resort also offers Kayak lessons, swimming in the lake, sport fishing, bear viewing, natural history touring during your stay, and flightseeing through Lake Clark Nat’l Park (add’l fees apply.
Be as physically rigorous as you like, or kick back and enjoy the fresh air. The emphasis at Redoubt Bay Lodge during the summer months is the spectacular natural terrain surrounding the lodge, the local wildlife residents, and learning from this fragile and special environment.
The Fishing - Is a constantly evolving exploration of Redoubt Bay's neighborhood for new fishing waters and angling adventures. For the truly adventures, a fly-out to nearby fishing areas can also be arranged.
Bear Viewing - Because of the salmon population at Big River Lakes, there are many bears that feed in the local area. Redoubt Bay is working hard to protect their resident bears and co-exist with them. A trained naturalist guide will take you for an up close and safe view of our nearest neighbors.
Canoe the Lake - Canoes and kayaks are available at the lodge for checking out the meandering coves of Big River Lakes. Spend a few minutes or all day exploring the famous Big River Lakes area.
What is a Critical Habitat Area? The critical habitat area established at Redoubt Bay is to protect the millions of birds that migrate, nest and live in the area. It is the world’s only nesting ground for the Tule goose, a sub-species of the White-fronted goose. At least one-third of all birds recorded in Alaska can be viewed here. Ask to borrow a set of binoculars for bird viewing!
Photography Opportunities - Big River Lakes offers a spectacular setting for novice and professional wilderness and outdoor photographers. Periodic special wilderness photography classes are offered at Redoubt Bay Lodge.
Note: Redoubt Bay's staff are permitted to commercially operate and guide in the Katmai National Park and Lake Clark National Park areas. They offer many custom trip itineraries into these, and other remote Alaskan locations. Please consider custom trip planning. |
