Anacortes is an historic downtown with many specialty stores, art galleries and antique shops. Locals as well as visitors have many opportunities to mingle in the picturesque town as seasonal outdoor festivals and celebrations are held year-round. Area Events include, for instance an Oyster Run, Festival of Family Farms, and Arts Alive.
Anacortes is also the gateway to the San Juan Islands, via their ferry terminal west of downtown. Passengers have a choice of islands to explore whether biking or driving. The islands offer friendly locals with thriving markets and great restaurants...The ferries also journey to Victoria, B.C., where crossing the border into Canada means transitioning into a Present day Victorian England: spend the day shopping in Old Towne, visit the world-famous Butchart Gardens, picnic in Beacon Hill Park, or just walk by the splendid architecture.
